Normally we might wait a little longer with new employees before putting them in the hot seat and grilling them with a quick-fire Q&A. But our new Marketing Coordinator has already got through a heck of a lot of work in a very short time. So… why not add one more task to the pile?
What brought you to Universal Packaging?
I finished my Communication degree in November 2020 so was on the hunt for a role that combined my love of all things communication and that aligned with my values. I was delighted to learn about Universal Packaging’s values around sustainability and doing what’s right for the customer. I was also drawn to their team spirit and the friendly office atmosphere.
What does your typical day at work look like?
Every day is different. This is my second week and so far I’ve had marketing meetings, visited two distribution centers, organised promotional material and started planning for our exhibit for the upcoming trade show ‘Food Tech Pack Tech’. Each day the team completes the morning and afternoon Stuff quizzes and I enjoy getting to know everyone over lunch.
What are the highlights of the job?
During my degree I learnt that it is particularly important for those working in Public Relations and Marketing to work for a company whose values you agree with – you have to promote them after all. A highlight for me has been learning about the role pallet wrap has in safely distributing food all over the country and that Universal Packaging is committed to doing this in the most sustainable way possible.
And some challenges?
Not gonna lie, going from the flexibility of student life to full time work is quite the contrast. But I’m enjoying my evenings and weekends without study!
What are you looking forward to at Universal Packaging?
I’m really looking forward to seeing our exhibit for Food Tech Pack Tech 2021 come together. I’m enjoying looking at the big picture and zooming in on the small details so it will be great to see the project through to completion.
A package of your three favourite things has turned up on your desk: what’s inside?
Ooh… That would have to be a good green tea, keys to a sunny yellow combi van for road trips around the South Island, and a healthy version of liquorice allsorts (if anyone invents some, let me know).
