About

We are passionate about leading the thought behind and wrap around New Zealand’s pallets. It’s how we look beyond the package to the products, processes and potential of our clients. It’s why we now lead the way in specialised pallet wrapping film, machinery, application and optimisation.

Since we first opened our doors over close to four decades ago, our team has worked with New Zealand companies from Kaitaia to Bluff. Be it light or heavy, from tissue paper to concrete blocks, if it’s dispatched on a daily basis the chances are we’ve helped to wrap it.

This experience is vital. Correct stretch wrapping not only ensures goods arrive in the best condition, it minimises damage costs and maximises process efficiency. That’s why we take a broad view of your operation – to see where we can save time and money within every aspect of your pallet wrapping process.

Pallet wrap, shrink wrap or stretch film, you can call it what you want. But when you need to get the most from product and process, from how and where it’s wrapped to the security, efficiency and cost effectiveness of shipping goods, call us first.

Our team

What I’m responsible for

I believe that leadership is a privilege and it is important to create an environment where everyone loves to come to work every day.  This will in turn lead to a thriving workplace where we all work together, heading in the same direction to achieve overall greatness and results for the business.

Something I’d like to wrap up

I would love to wrap up a whole bunch of love and kindness to share around endlessly! I hope to one day be in a position where I can make a difference and assist more with a charity involving disadvantaged children.

Something I’d like to unwrap

The ability to wave a magic wand to be able to travel endlessly around the world. We can learn so much from worldly travel, and experiencing a balance of different cultures would be so wonderful.

What I’m responsible for

National Sales Manager – Responsible for supporting our National Sales network to deliver solutions to the  needs  of our valuable customer base.

Something I’d like to wrap up

Some stability in the world, there are so many countries at war with each other right now. Unfortunately, the agendas of the few, create uncertainty for many.

Something I’d like to unwrap

An endless 5 foot  NE swell with a light westerly offshore wind, even and glassy.

What I’m responsible for

I manage our National Accounts, working with customers at head office level to make sure Universal Packaging stays front of mind as one of their top-tier suppliers. That means consistently driving the highest standard of service and support, and always looking for ways to improve efficiency, cost, or service for the businesses we work with.

Something I’d like to wrap up

The year, in style. My favourite time of year is daylight saving — long light evenings and warm days make everything better. Life gets hectic, so I really value the Christmas break to switch off and spend quality time with my kids.

Something I’d like to unwrap

All of life’s unanswered questions — like why batteries come wrapped in bulletproof plastic but eggs sit in a flimsy paper carton, why a plane’s black box always survives a crash yet the rest of the plane isn’t built the same way, and why Dora never just used Google Maps.

What I’m responsible for

I’m the BDM for the upper North Island, covering Northland and the Bay of Plenty. My focus is growing sales volume and margin while retaining strong, long-term relationships across my territory.

I came to New Zealand with a background in engineering and plastics, which gave me a solid technical grounding before I moved into packaging sales. Nearly 30 years on, the fundamentals haven’t changed: treat customers fairly and with integrity, and the relationships take care of themselves.

Something I’d like to wrap up

My mortgage — it would be great to be debt-free.

Something I’d like to unwrap

A round-the-world ticket for me and my wife, Kelsey. Failing that, I’d happily settle for a trip back to Louisiana.

What I’m responsible for

I look after selling packaging solutions to both new and existing customers, making sure they get the products and service tailored to their needs. After 17 years in the industry, I still get the most satisfaction from building strong client relationships and bringing in new business.

Something I’d like to wrap up

A winning lottery ticket! I’d love to see the look on someone’s face the moment they realise they’ve won.

Something I’d like to unwrap

A Caribbean cruise – after a career spent closing deals, a bit of sun, sea and relaxation sounds pretty good.

What I’m responsible for

As an Account Management, I love offering specialist packaging services to my customers across Auckland. I’m passionate about building relationships and helping my customers find packaging solutions that make their jobs easier and fit their specific needs and priorities.

Something I’d like to wrap up

Everything from paint to pet food, alcohol to Italian tiles. My customers span manufacturers, logistics companies, importers and suppliers of all kinds, and I like keeping them happy, their projects moving, and their packaging challenges neatly wrapped up.

Something I’d like to unwrap

Exciting new opportunities, fresh ideas, and the occasional surprise challenge to keep things interesting.

What I’m responsible for:

I’m responsible for my portfolio and growing it, making sure my current customer base is happy and looking for growth opportunities.

Also being there to support my team in any way I can because at the end of the day we are all working towards the same goal.

Something I’d like to wrap up:

A brand new jetski!! So I can unwrap it at Christmas. But since I’m still yet to win the lotto I would like to wrap up the current struggles families in NZ are facing. Having hard-working people working crazy hours and still struggling to buy food and pay their bills is criminal in this day and age.

Something I’d like to unwrap:

A winning lotto ticket so I can purchase a fleet of Ford Mustangs and jetskis. One for every day of the week would be nice.

What I’m responsible for

Selling anything in, on and around a pallet from Timaru to the top of the South Island, at competitive prices.

Something I’d like to wrap up

My mortgage… or getting a proposal from my other half!

Something I’d like to unwrap

Pokémon cards. Pokémon cards. And more Pokémon cards.

What I’m responsible for

I support our sales team out on the road by handling customer quotes, orders, and samples, and keeping track of customer spending and ordering trends so our reps have what they need at their fingertips. I also look after a number of our internal sales customers directly, and step in to help others whenever their rep isn’t available.

Something I’d like to wrap up

A cheque for a cool $1,000,000 for my dad. He’s forever joking that I owe him for everything growing up, so it’d be nice to finally settle the score — with interest, apparently.

Something I’d like to unwrap

A Lotto win — enough to pay off the mortgage, help a few mates clear their student loans, and pick up a holiday home or two.

What I’m responsible for:

Leading and motivating the Customer Service & Machinery team to provide excellent service for our customers.

Something I’d like to wrap up:

A winning lotto ticket to help people.

Something I’d like to unwrap:

Food, a puppy, and a ticket to travel the world.

What I’m responsible for:

I’m in charge of stock procurement and inventory levels. Making sure our customers have what they need when they need it.

Something I’d like to wrap up:

A Euro trip for my wife.

Something I’d like to unwrap:

A lakeside house in Taupo. Big enough for me and the whole family to enjoy.

Our history

Founded by Neville Goddin in 1985, Universal Packaging originally started as a contract packing company. In 1988 we diversified into specialty containers, closures and primary packaging and, for close to two decades, worked hard to meet the ever- changing demands for packaging.

In 2007 this changed with the progression into our current business focus. Kiwi companies were crying out for better, faster, more effective load containment. It was a need that could not be ignored. We began to focus solely on end of line packaging, specialising in pallet load containment products and machinery.

In 2009 we became the sole NZ distributor for Wulftec’s range of pallet wrapping and strapping machinery. In 2011 we added the Spinny range to our stable, becoming exclusive NZ distributors for this technology also. In 2013 we undertook Australasia’s first greater confidence.” ever installation of dual floor-mounted rotary arm Wulftec stretch wrappers.

Since then we’ve introduced new technology and, more recently, have grown our expertise with safety systems for stretch wrapping equipment.

We’ve also stayed on the cutting edge of product development. In 2010 we launched ClearWrap, this high performance film proving to be immediately popular. In 2012 SmartWrap was introduced, again to widespread appeal. In 2017 XTWrap arrived and then, in 2018, the innovative 33-layer NanoWrap became a game-changer.

Around this time we began trialing our SCOPE programme. This real-time film monitoring system provides a clear and comprehensive view of every pallet wrapped. Now NZ companies can correctly assess, refine and manage packaging processes with far greater confidence.

In 2021 we took another big step up when Spicers NZ acquired Universal Packaging. Rubbing shoulders with well-regarded brands such as Total Supply (who are also in the Spicers group), Universal Packaging is now on a bigger stage than ever before.

A renowned and respected brand, Spicers have been serving the country’s paper needs for over 100 years now. Their move to focus on sustainable growth has seen them invest in the paper, sign, display and packaging industries over the last two decades. The acquisition of Universal Packaging is another example of this future-forward mindset.

This new partnership builds towards a dynamic future for both companies. We expect to provide increased efficiency and effectiveness in our technology, unwavering capability and care in our service. The years ahead promise great things for both brands and, as we bind together and send secure, great things for our customers too.

“Around this time we began trialing our SCOPE programme… now NZ companies can correctly assess, refine and manage packaging processes with far greater confidence.”

Our values

Quite simply, our values inform every aspect of our work. As a team we’re always working with the business goals of every customer front of mind. It is why we’ll only recommend a product or process if we can prove it will achieve these goals. Why we’ll always work with the integrity of our reputation in mind. Why we never settle for second-best.

This is a company-wide ethos – the reason why we bind together in our efforts so New Zealand can send secure. It is a non-negotiable standard that delivers purpose to our work and peace of mind to our customers.

Integrity

Assured values.
Absolute worth.

New Zealand is a small country where a company’s reputation travels far and wide. Our adherence to guiding principles, customer solutions service and individual and company accountability ensures this reputation is of the highest order.

Empathy

A helping hand.

Only by understanding the challenges faced by our customers can we help them overcome any problems they may face. Only by recognising differences can we value, celebrate and grow the unique skills and personalities within our team. Everyday, in every way, kindness and awareness is crucial.

Hilarity

Let the good
times roll.

When the days are long, and the work is hard, a little laughter and good-natured fun can make all the difference. It’s a down-to-earth approach that our customers certainly appreciate too. That’s why we’ll never get too wrapped up in ourselves. Life’s too short not to love a good laugh!

Ingenuity

Extra miles
make for better
results.

Change is always constant. By thinking outside the box we can improve packaging and distribution performances in ways that may not be at first obvious. By backing this with impeccable, unbeatable service we can go the extra mile – and the places we arrive are often of immense value for all.

Loyalty

To one. To all.

We are loyal to our customers because their success is our success. We are loyal to our team, pitching in and helping out whenever it’s needed. Above all, we are loyal to ourselves. We’ll never place quick gains or selfish goals above our personal values or our company ethos.
