Breakfast beneficence

Looking back on our Pink Ribbon event

On the 16th of June we held a Pink Ribbon Breakfast here at Universal Packaging. The event provided both a wonderful opportunity to catch up with some great people (and eat delicious food), and the chance to support a truly vital charity.

The arrival of pink in the Universal Packaging office was certainly a sight to behold. It wasn’t just the odd pink balloon and shirt on display – we had pink hair and pink decorations and pink smoothies and pink fudge and even a pink oodie and lots more.

All that pink wasn’t just for show – the colour was for an important cause. As Kylie Taylor shared, breast cancer affects everyone in New Zealand. For our General Manager, the event was a personal one. She shared her story of being 19 years old when she lost her mum to breast cancer.

It put the hard work behind the scenes into perspective, making the effort and support that much more significant. And, with 30 people in attendance, just getting the menu together proved a considerable feat.

Resident UP BBQ guru Matt Goddin delivered the expert grill guidance, leading a team of committed BBQers to a delectable, finger-licking conclusion. They worked using Mainfreight’s very impressive BBQ trailer, and the food was generously donated by Pioneer New World, Talleys, Farmland Foods, Goodman Fielder and Fonterra. We also had barista coffees by Arrosta and on-theme pink smoothies.

We all got to admire the beautiful flowers on display donated by Violet May Flowers & Gifts for the occasion. Then there were also the amazing activities and prizes on offer. Our silent auction had all kinds of goodies from Anderson’s Automation and Controls, Visto Cleaning Service, Sushi MaMa, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Pomona. A raffle gave away three hampers (one from Giftbox Boutique and two put together with items from our team, The Herb Farm and Finn’s Fudge), and thanks again to Finn’s Fudge, we had a ‘Guess how many pieces of fudge in the jar’ guessing game for attendees too.

There were also spot prizes to be won, Brae’s handiwork with the origami stars displayed lucky numbers for six prizes from the Breast Cancer Foundation, Finn’s Fudge and Pure Nature.

Local musician Laura Evans gave up her morning to provide beautiful background music too, delivering the pitch-perfect ambience to start the day.

A big-huge-massive thanks to the Spicers business too. They’ve very generously matched dollar for dollar the amount that was raised.

We couldn’t be prouder of the UP team, who went above and beyond to make this event such an incredible success. We’re so grateful for everyone who supported this event and donated directly to the Breast Cancer Foundation. A big-huge-massive thanks to the Spicers business too. They’ve very generously matched dollar for dollar the amount that was raised. This makes the total we are sending to the Breast Cancer Foundation over $10,000!

Special thanks to Kevin Bills Media for taking pictures for us on the day.

Thank you to all the sponsors who made this such a special event. Your generous support was incredible!
