Great packaging, great people and…pickled onions?

From the 19th to the 21st of September, the Universal Packaging team bound together with our bigger, bolder, and better team to introduced new tech and meet old and new friends at Foodtech Packtech.

After another busy three days at the Auckland Showgrounds, it is clear just how important this event is for New Zealand companies looking to innovate and elevate what they can deliver.

“Yes, nowadays everyone can get a lot of information online. But it’s also important to step up and share what’s new – so people can see everything up close,” said Universal GM Kylie Taylor.

“Meeting face to face can be so much more efficient and rewarding for all parties, which makes our continued investment (in Foodtech Packtech) so worth it.”

The new equipment on display certainly made an impression on the crowds.

The ErgoPack unit was a big hit,” says Jed Goudie, our Business Manager. “The ease, speed, and efficiency of strapping pallet loads without strain or stress was easy to see.”

Indeed, keeping things stress-free was vital. Those on our team with FTPT experience were happy to share a few tips for success, including wearing comfortable shoes and staying hydrated. It’s also always important to think outside the box.

With a wide product range and a reputation for getting things done it’s not surprising we’ll often be asked about technology outside our immediate purview. One query at this year’s show stood out – a request for a commercial onion peeler.

Universal is obviously not in the onion peeler business, but we know what to look for when it comes to industrial equipment. So, Matt Goddin got researching and sourced two different options for the attendees.

“Nothing’s impossible,” said Matt. “And they promised me pickled onions if the guidance proved fruitful – which is an absolute win I reckon.”

For an event with ‘food’ in the name there were attractions of the display and dietary kind also.

We debuted our new Mosca stainless steel strapping equipment, which is ideal to meet the hard-wearing demands of food manufacturers in New Zealand. Then there was the presence of the iconic White Lady food truck, which was welcomed by the team.

“It was a good excuse to have a delicious burger without having to go out on a late night in Auckland,” said Jed.

Now we’re following up new connections (be sure to get in touch if you haven’t heard from us) and returning to our everyday work providing wrapping equipment and quality packaging solutions to meet the needs of Kiwi companies everywhere.

Thank you Foodtech Packtech 2023. We’ll see everyone again in a couple of years!
