Roll call!

Roll call! Loading your Wulftec wrapper the right way
Just like loading a roll of toilet paper onto the holder*, there’s a right way and a wrong way to reload your Wulftec stretch wrapper.

Loading stretch film the wrong way won’t just ruffle the feathers of finicky fellow bathroom users however. It can cause unnecessary wear and tear on a valuable piece of machinery.

Here’s how to do it once – and do it right…

  1. Use the film loading button on the control panel to bring the carriage to a comfortable loading position for changing the film roll.
  2. Remove the empty film roll and place a new roll onto the mantle. Ensure the roll is oriented correctly to ensure the cling side is against the load.
  3. Pull some film out, enough length to reach the clamp. Open the clamp with one hand and insert the edge of the film into the jaw of the clamp with the other.
  4. Press the gate latch release button to open the carriage gate.
  5. Pull a small amount of film from the roll and hold the top edge of the film to pull it flat and taut in front of the carriage. As with bed sheets, the fewer wrinkles and folds, the better.
  6. Gently push the pre-stretch roller back into the carriage to secure the film between the rollers.
  7. You can check that the carriage gate is properly shut by checking the proximity sensor. There’s a hole in the cover for this purpose.

And here’s how to extend the lifetime of your film clamp…

The film clamp is a small but essential piece of the system. By making a habit of using it correctly DC teams can lengthen the life of the clamp and save on maintenance costs.

Many operators will bunch the edge of the film into a thin roll and jam it into the clamp. To newbies, this may seem like a good way to secure the film. Experienced users know otherwise.

That’s because the jaws of the clamp have textured inserts that grip onto the film. Bunching, rolling or jamming the film is a big no-no as it causes friction on the inserts. You’re essentially pushing a wedge down onto a surface that is designed to gently grasp cling film. Regular, vigorous pressure over time can weaken and eventually fracture this surface.

To avoid that unnecessary wear and tear over time, think of making a bed with a fitted sheet. You lift up the corner of the mattress with one hand, pull the sheet taut with the other and tuck it underneath.

In the same way, when reloading the Wulftec, pull the film evenly and firmly with one hand, while gently placing the film into the jaws of the clamp with the other. That way, everyone will rest easy.

*We know it’s a contentious issue but, in all seriousness, why do people still choose under instead of over? Science says there’s only one right way!
