WoolpackTM
Looking for a better way to protect your cold products when shipping? Compared with polystyrene and other insulated packaging options, Woolpack is the smartest option for sending sustainably.
Made from pure sheep’s wool sourced from New Zealand and Australian stock, the complex blend of different fibres gives Woolpack optimum insulation performance in the most natural way possible.
Sealed within compostable or recyclable food grade film and tested to meet the most exacting of standards, this innovative product thermally outperforms the competition while being cost-effective and environmentally responsible.
This makes it ideal for a wide range of New Zealand companies. From fresh foods to seafood, pharmaceuticals to chocolate, Woolpack has been proven to keep contents below 5°C for well over 24 hours – and between 2°C and 8°C for 72 hours and beyond.
Sometimes simple solutions can be the smartest. Wool is an abundant, sustainable and renewable resource. Thanks to the incredible natural properties of this ‘smart fibre’, Woolpack offers a valuable insulated packaging solution that ticks as many boxes as it fills.
Features & Benefits:
- Insulate temperature-sensitive goods with confidence
- 100% biodegradable and compostable
- Can hold up to 35% its own weight in moisture
- Smell-absorbent and anti-bacterial
- Helps cushion carton contents in transit
The proof is in the pudding (and also the testing)
Woolpack has undergone rigorous temperature performance testing in simulated and live trials to ensure that it maintains the right temperature profiles for goods in transit. In-house and independent testing performed for the food sector show that Woolpack maintains temperatures of less than 5 ̊C for 24 to 48 hours.
Looking beyond A to B
The advantages of Woolpack go beyond simply looking after products in transit. The flat-packability reduces warehouse storage space, pallet movements, labour costs and overall transportation costs. Its lightweight nature can reduce delivery fuel usage and reduce the use of refrigerated transport cooling systems and refrigerants.
Frequently Asked Questions
It is made from 100% biodegradable and compostable felted sheep’s wool, sealed within a food grade film. The raw material used is considered “waste wool”, so this natural resource provides additional environmental benefits that go beyond everyday use.
As wool fibres are incredibly effective at absorbing moisture from the air this minimises humidity and condensation to maintain stable temperatures. The food grade film enclosing this wool is micro-perforated to allow the wool fibres to breathe, which creates the natural cooling system. When used with refrigerant to establish the
required cool temperature, Woolpack insulation has been proven to keep contents packed at 1 ̊C, chilled below 5 ̊C for at least 24 hours plus.
The natural washing and scouring process ensures Woolpack is sterilised. From there the wool is wrapped and sealed inside food grade film to prevent fibres coming into direct contact with food.
This innovative insulated packaging arrived in 2016. Since then, it has proven popular with a wide range of sustainably minded companies throughout New Zealand and Australia.
