Working order – Care & maintenance tips for your pallet wrapper
Tough componentry and modern engineering delivers the highest standards in pallet wrapping equipment for New Zealand companies. However, when it comes to getting the most spin from your buck, there’s no such thing as ‘too much peace of mind’.
That’s why we’ve prepared some quick tips for easy ongoing maintenance on our Spinny pallet wrappers.
1) Keep it clean. Let’s be honest, distribution centres are often dirty and dusty places. Always avoid rubbish from piling up around the wrapper as stray pieces can get caught under the turntable and cause annoying jams and even more annoying breakage. Also keep the wrapper away from any major dust sources – particularly other equipment that regularly emits dust. Preventing exposure to dust and other corrosive substances is a ‘common sense’ process that nevertheless still gets missed in many operations.
2) Watch your parts. While the Spinny has exceptional Italian design and engineering, some parts will always provide more of the heavy lifting than others. Keep a close eye on the turntable belt to ensure there is always correct tension and not too much wear. Also watch the lift belt and keep the chain lubricated with the right oil. While we provide excellent breakdown service as and when required, it also helps to have a few key spare parts close by.
3) Learn the ropes. With the right training, operators will be able to check key areas of the equipment at key times – everything from once a shift to once a month. In this way, there’ll always be someone close by who knows exactly how the equipment should be operated. New, inadequately trained staff can cause real issues with machinery breakage, the type of problems where a little extra attention in expert training can make a world of difference.
You don’t need to go over the top with detailed polishing and exhaustive daily spot checks. Rather, make it a habit to regularly inspect the equipment, the surrounding packaging and the operation processes in place. In this way you can prevent any small problems from becoming big ones.
